Who was Carl Barks, you might ask? He was the writer and artist who created more than 500 stories about Donald Duck and his nephews for WALT DISNEY'S COMICS AND STROIES and various other Disney comics. Carl created the character Uncle Scrooge McDuck, the world's richest duck, who kept his money in a huge Money Bin. He loved to dive into his money, to burrow through it like a gopher, and to toss it up and let it hit him on the head.
Carl retired from drawing the Disney comics in 1970 and in his retirement, he started creating large oil paintings of Donald and Scrooge in situations from his stories. These paintings originally sold to Carl's fans for $150 each. Today they are worth anywhere from $30,000 to $500,000? You can find some of these paintings for sale on eBay.
